Ida Dahl known to me as Aunt Ida and to my children as Grandma Ida has left this world for a better place. The first pic is a photo of Ida and husband, John Dahl. The second pic is Ida Mae and Aunt Ida the last time they were together. Miss you...Ida Juliet Dahl was born December 28, 1913, west of Mandan, North Dakota in Morton County, the fourth daughter of Kornelius Christian and Josephine Paulina (Johanson) Hendrickson. She was raised and attended school in Mandan and graduated from Mandan High School in 1933. She attended one year of Teachers College and then taught school for three years. In 1935, Ida moved back home to keep house for her widowed Father and two brothers. In 1937 she was engaged to John Dahl from Mandan, whom she married on June 22, 1937. They were married in Colorado Springs, Colorado in a Double ceremony with their best friends and moved to Cripple Creek Colorado where John was a gold miner. They moved several times during their 40 years of marriage finally settling in Seattle Washington in 1951. Their two sons, John and Peter were born in Cripple Creek and their Daughter Dianne was born in Seattle.
Ida’s husband was severely disabled in the late forties and was unable to walk for most of their marriage, so Ida worked and supported their family until her retirement in 1978. She retired from the Safeco Insurance Company after 26 years. John passed away due to complications of pneumonia in 1977.
Ida was an active member of Ballard Lutheran Church. She sang in the church choir for 50 years and worked in many church groups and outside Lutheran organizations she was known by the church membership as a saint, giving tirelessly of her time and love of everyone.
Her extended family which spread all over the United States referred to her as “Saint Ida”. She was always happy and her loving personality spread to everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends who loved her dearly.
